Broken Reflections

Reflections are actions

shown in light or thought.

Sometimes serene like

reflections off a lake.

Sometimes broken like

refractions off broken glass.

Between light and thought

is a dream reflected or refracted.

Sometime reflected upon in thought

or refracted by reality’s actuality.

Sometimes refracted upon a light

or reflected by a memory’s beauty.

Between reflection and refraction

lies a lake ebbing waves or shards.

Sometimes these waves carry boats

through waters serenely for a visionary.

Sometimes these waves drag boats

on sands roughly showing a charlie.

Rudder or oar either or

can do no more if there is only ore.

For both dreams and actions

need both a boat and water.

For light is fire ignited by thought

to burn or build dreams we call destiny.

Ambition without knowledge

is reflection’s broken boat on dry land.

Whereas a dream without action

is refraction’s broken shard on sand.

So choose your boat wisely

but learn how to sail on water.

Balance decides surface tension

for waters or wounds from shards.

Set your course not by force

if you are to avoid broken reflections.
