Constriction

Constriction is a poem written by Kelli J. Gavin and shared with The Ugly Writers with the theme Recovery for the month of March.

Constriction

It hurts more every day

The tightness

The grasp

The hold

Wondering when it will end

If it will end

The tears are constant

I can’t seem to wipe them

They keep reappearing

Falling

Burning

Aching

I’ve reached my limit

Don’t believe I can continue

Immobilized by pain

Held captive by the weight

Fearful this is all I am

My chest is constricted

Can’t take a full breath

Now is when I cave

Implode

Fade away

I have nothing left to give

Never anything to offer

All strength depleted

Yet I will not stop

Searching

Wishing

Hoping

There has to be more

Something gotta to give

Release the pressure

The tightness

The constant hold

It must stop

The Falling

Burning

Aching

This constriction must cease

A friend who struggles with depression and anxiety was struggling and felt that she was at an impasse.  I shared with her that she wasn’t on her own and that I was there to support her. I started writing about what she spoke about.  She spoke of the weight, the heft, the burden of what she was thinking and feeling and experiencing.  When I shared this piece with her, she said yes. yes. She said the words like falling, burning, aching resonated in her soul.
