The Games We Play
The Games We Play is a spoken word poetry entry from Carolaine Joe and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme The Games We Play.
The Games We Play
Dancing with strangers.
Tons of prayers.
Crying on endless nights.
Stuck with merciless thoughts.
Waking up simply wanting to breathe.
“Maybe I should accept defeat?”
Playing tag with every emotion within yourself.
Pulling yourself together, you lied to yourself.
“I will be fine.”
“I will be okay.”
“I just need to start again.”
“When will this be over?”
As you look at the sky looking for the answers.
“I just want to be happy.”
You smiled simply.
But beneath those smiles and glittering eyes.
Your mind kept on screaming, waving goodbyes.
You tried to breathe but it was harder.
As the screaming in your head gets louder and louder.
You wanted to scream but you don’t want to bother.
You cried, pleading for help.
Wanting to scream all the pain that you’ve been keeping to yourself.
But instead, you covered your mouth.
Keeping those screaming and not letting any word out.
Wiping your tears you looked in the mirror.
“I’m okay… I’ll be fine…” smiling to yourself like there is no error.
Covering everything that triggers.
You laugh while hiding the pain from the daggers.
“Let’s start again.”
