Lies is a short story written by Caren Bintulan and shared with The Ugly Writers for the month of July
Heaven Rodriguez is a kind and well-known student. She was the top student of her class, she’s also the president of the supreme student government. While she was doing her rounds, she saw Hell Chua who’s trying to cut classes. Like his name, Helldric “Hell” Chua is known as a disaster. He’s also a basketball varsity player in their school. Heaven scolded him and Hell find Heaven interesting. After that, Hell always gives Heaven a hard time because he wants her attention for him.
Hell always wants to go to detention just to see Heaven. Although Hell is a pain in the ass, he would always make Heaven smile whenever they meet at the detention. Hell would always let Heaven explore new things. Hell and Heaven became close to each other.
Heaven didn’t notice that she’s already falling in love with Hell, every time that she would go and check the students in detention, she’s always looking for him. But little did she know, Hell is a Cassanova. She didn’t know that the times that they were together were only Hell’s pastime. Those sweet messages and actions that Hell did were only a lie.
Heaven cried after she found out that Hell is only playing with her feelings. Heaven became like a dark cloud. Her world became shattered and crumpled. She didn’t know what to do. She was expecting that Hell is being real to her but she was disappointed again when she saw Hell kissing another girl and it was her step-sister, Angel.
Moving on wasn’t that easy for Heaven because Hell still bugs her. It was hard for her to move on as if nothing happened. A week later, Hell suddenly changed and disappeared like a bubble. Heaven found out that Hell and Angel are in a relationship. Heaven felt very sad, confused and it feels like her heart was broken into pieces.
In the end, Heaven decided to focus to study and move on by staying away from Hell and no communication because she was hurt by what Hell did to her but on the other side, she was happy that she met someone like Hell Chua who makes her happy even its a small thing and even Hell hurt her feelings.
A month has passed… whenever they see or bump into each other, It seems like they don’t know each other and nothing happened to them after that. Those beautiful moments that happened to them became memories.
