As The World Sleeps is a poem written by Maxwell Diggle and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme Oh Snaps! for the month of August
As the world sleeps,
I lie drowning in misery.
Hosts of demons strike
me, again and again,
With swords, maces, and whips.
And, with embers,
they burn my tongue
to halt songs of praise.
They creep through my veins,
day by day, to inflict pain.
But wherever I go,
my heart carries this mustard
seed—this seed that eliminates
my foe’s Malice. So
as the world goes to sleep,
I wake up and arise.
