ADHDer on Downtime

ADHDer on Downtime

My mind feels like a
bustling street market.
People are walking
past each other.
Their footsteps unrhythmically
beat the ground.
Chatting, chattering,
whispering, shouting.
Utensils clanking
on the kitchen sink.
Water droplets
banging on metal.
Spoons grating
on plates.
Meat sizzling
on the grill.
Teeth chomping food.
Children laughing, screaming,
dancing, playing.
Loud music thumping
out of speakers,
chasing around my thoughts.
Peddlers compete,
offering a variety of stuff,
talking over each other.
Vehicles passing through.
Roaring motorcycle mufflers,
blaring car horns,
screeching wheels
scraping on the pavement.
There’s a constant
unorganized barrage of noise
from different directions.
Everything fighting
for my attention.
And there’s me
orchestrating everything
including myself
at one of the tables
conversing to myself
and with someone else.
