Jaded

My wounded soul is stuck in this pattern of fancying people like him, never ready to love back.

Jaded is a poem written by Ma. Elena Yusay and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme Master of my Fate, Captain of my Soul for January

Jaded from travel,

I wonder if

He’s worth the

wait, silly me,

He said before

“I ain’t ready.”

My wounded soul

is stuck in

this pattern of

fancying people like

him, never ready

to love back.

He only takes

to quench his

thirst and ego.

Cupid’s arrow pierces

my heart, but

doesn’t pierce his.

He gets his

fill of sacred

energy, but leaves

me with nothing.

Another incubus, another

disappointing pleasure escapade.

I tell the

sovereign in the

mirror, “Don’t fret,

I love you.”

I also say,

“I respect you.”

I sever his

rope and say,

“It’s over. Goodbye.”

to the earth we return
