Ex-cess Memories

Ex-cess Memories is a poem written by Kevin Rein and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme Intrusive Thoughts for the month of May

I was awakened at 2 in the morning

Sweat drips from all over my face

My throat sore from snoring

I couldn’t close my eyes again

And then, flashbacks came rushing

I was staring blank at the ceiling

I read names, I remembered faces

Memories resurfaced

I picked my phone and typed some words

Hell, I forgot his first name

I remember his family name

But I cannot recall wether it has letter v or b

I gambled by looking at suggestions

I saw him quick on first line

That face still sends me butterflies

Baby face, deep eyes, and silly smile

And then, I wondered why the sudden reminder

Did I dream that we were still together

Or he’s awake too somewhere

With the memories of me in his head, as well

the ugly writers
