Idiocracy of Duty & Abuse is written by Pasithea Chan and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme Intrusive Thoughts for the month of May

The sky fell into the ocean’s embrace
shimmering across a pearly gaze.
Even the clouds ran out of space
chasing the drum beating in its cage.
Privilege has taken centerstage
manipulating guilt with age.
Paranoia is a starless mage
withholding rain with rage
Lathering guilt like butter
making gaslighting taste better.
Ego is abuse’s soprano choir member
adept in stealing care’s thunder.
Together they are duty’s master.
Duty is a loud hungry hound
shoveling rebuke over logic’s mound.
It drinks ire’s tea boiled in a kettle
of mettle mixed with misery’s nettle.
It relishes gloom’s whistle
from censure’s pleasurable doom.
You can sing all the notes
but you’ll never cut the ropes
that tie chaos to false hopes.
Authority and freedom are antonyms
never synonyms of amicability and family.
Rain or shine day is day and night is night
just as might will never mean right.
We live in an idiocracy of duty & abuse.
