I remember being called slow

I remember being called slow is a poem written by Ma. Elena Yusay and shared with The Ugly Writers

MABAGAL

Slow… a word that defined me,

that continues to haunt my being.

Slow… a word ingrained in every shard

of my psyche and my body.

Slow… a word equated with empty skulls

filled with dust and mold.

Slow… a word unworthy of praise

in a society of rushed blue sheets.

Slow… a word entwined with poppycock

to disguise insults to my intellect.

Slow… a word sashaying with stillness

as I plead for oxygen in timed races.

Slow… a word despised by people

born with quicksilver wits and grits.

Slow… a word befriending tears

that fill the dank caves of my soul.

Slow… will this word be included in my epitaph?
