A Hermit’s Encounter with a Prince of Coffee

A Hermit’s Encounter with a Prince of Coffee is a poem written by Ma. Elena Yusay and shared with The Ugly Writers

Nutty scents called to me like a siren’s song.

I followed the trail of chocolate and cherry notes,

without knowing where it would take me.

What lay ahead at the end of this path?

My, my…

I found a castle humming songs of sea waves and sand.

Its master was a prince with the smile of a lion sun.

He shared salt-air memories and hope,

as corals whispered their melodies in my ear.

Marine life in liquid infusion healed fibers of oneself:

The first tide turtle’s caress soothed souls,

the hammerhead shark’s strums electrified minds,

the starfish’s exploration tales inspired hearts.

In blue corals, I felt peace,

yet I found myself yearning for the prince’s gaze.

I’ve been a hermit who lost her light;

will the flame of my lantern rekindle in his abode?
