Ordinary

Frosted snow

Ordinary is a poem written by Kelli J. Gavin and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme Retrospective for the month of September

Nothing was ordinary when it came to you

You would create adventures from nothing

You found fun around every corner

Discovered beauty in the mundane

You would dress in your winter gear

And then would make sure that I did too

And we would set out on a trek

Where would the day take us?- I would ask

Wherever it wants to.- You would answer

Across frozen lakes and through wooded forests

Down steep hills only to climb the next

‘Til we could go no further

When the fences and barbed wire

Made us stop in our tracks

We would then turn around and head off

In another direction

Only to discover something new

And just as exciting was waiting for us

Thank you for being patient

For waiting for me when my small legs were tired

Thank you for enabling me to revel in the beauty

Which seemed to surround us on every side

Thank you for showing me always

The surprises waiting for me

And were mine for the taking just past each tree

Nothing was ordinary when it came to you

Every day I continue to be grateful to you

Thank you, Dad for creating adventures

For finding fun around every corner

And for helping me find beauty in the mundane
