I followed the rain today
like never before,
into the tiny holes where
earthworms dwelt
and treetops where hatchlings chirped.
I held her hands
as she recited poems of
her dazzling beauty,
stories of her enraging nature.
I let her hug me tight
and we swam
with twigs and forgotten paper boats
while I lay rain soaked
she wandered into the clouds
into the blossoming dusk
farther into the night
telling stories
to a child somewhere faraway.
