Dear Jim

Dear Jim,

It has been over a year,

Since you disappeared,

On that night

On that train.

Jim,

Know that I’ll remember

That you taught me how

to walk,

to read,

to write,

to live.

I won’t forget,

The cruelty that took you from me,

or my failure that led to you being taken.

And since you were robbed

from me,

we looked in the carriage,

we looked at the stations,

and the men looked around for you,

across states,

and across the country.

And still, one year later,

You remain missing,

As much as
I miss you.

Jim,

If I were to choose

Between sleeping rough

And waking in your absence,

I’d rather have the former;

For what good came of sleeping smoothly that night?

For each night’s sleep since

Has been burdened with

The mistakes of yesteryear.

And for all that trouble,

From which we both have suffered,

I am sorry.

Signed,

A friend.
