I Left My Heart In The Philippines

I Left My Heart In The Philippines is a poem written by Kevin Rein and shared via The Ugly Writers under the theme Just Barely for the month of October

I Left My Heart In The Philippines

I may be gushing over the falls of Niagara,

But I am still more in love with Maria Cristina.

And if you insist that it’s more beautiful in Bermuda,

Wait until you wake up surfing the tides of Aurora.

You may take me around chasing geysers,

In St. Helens, in Yellowstone, in Kilauea,

Send me diving down to the lava streams,

Still my heart is in Vulcan de Agua in Camarines.

I can talk all day about the Philippines,

The only place I call my own.

I may get lost in one of it’s 7,640 islands,

But it’s okay, everywhere is home.

You may ask why I choose no other,

It’s because here I’m fated to stay,

And in case I get stranded somewhere,

I swear I will find a way.

I may be amazed of the hills in Azores,

But I’d be happier rolling down the hills of Batanes.

And if you insist they are friendlier in Toronto,

Close your eyes and I will take you to Baguio.
