Time Traveler

He sits alone
watching lightning swell like veins in the clouds–
his heartbeat makes the windows shiver too
as he makes a narrative of rain
at night to fall asleep.

First, the feeling of the saturated atmosphere
then the sound waves from the window panes
inside canals, inside the brain informs
what the sound is–rain.

The eyes unfold and the story aligns–
rain from the sky sounds like
punches I learned in my garage
and
Dad’s body rippled
like the windows at night.
