eclipse is a poem written by Nina Tundag and shared with The Ugly Writers under the theme Master of my Fate, Captain of my Soul for January
eclipse

and my body was
flooded in this sort of
deserted way where it
was full but empty,
bleeding and sweating
out the curse, i cannot
make out with my
tongue in a knot.
i am in the mirror or
is the world an
aquarium? i have my
hand outstretched to this
younger version of you
but i did not know you then
and i am afraid i may
never.
i suck in all the water,
burdening my lungs,
until i think i’m
breathing,
my ears collapsing
under the weight,
i am careful not to
hear your songs again;
i land on the grass
before your grave,
punching the
stone that holds
you forever to this earth.
my fingers give out
and i am in a pool again
with my feet never
reaching the floor;
when i wake in
this new life, i remember
that i am holding
this fever in my hands
like water, and i sweat
and it burns my eyes,
and there you are in
the window drawing
pictures in the fog.
