Moonlight Reflection – David The Nomad and Ms. Taciturn

I first came to Tagaytay many years ago, saw its famous views but didn’t get to appreciate its unique beauty-to me it was just another place to take a souvenir photo.

Been there, done that.

And so years later here I am again…

Travelling to see what Tagaytay has to offer beyond what I know or expect.

With a friend, we went to venture into a place many have gone before expecting that we will uncover its beauty for ourselves.

This time…

I came to see the breathtaking views and feel the chills of December and most of all to view the moon from a vantage point I’ve never seen before.

Yet You hid yourself when we arrived. Starting with a little drizzle, You made it known You had other plans and then it poured…

We had no choice but to wait it out, peeking through the window, hoping the weather would clear up soon; as time ticked, we felt the moment passed us by, the chance to see the stars and moon faded…

Yet we patiently waited…

Sitting on the balcony looking out made us appreciate the little things…

Feeling the coldness of the night…

The darkness of the sky no longer dampened our spirits.

We looked to each other to fill the emptiness…

That dark sky which reminded us of our lives…

We didn’t want the trip to be a waste….

And so we filled in those moments with deep conversations…

Looking out as the rain was pouring, we decided to enjoy each other’s company…

We shared our life stories…

As we filled that darkness

with topics about

our views,

our hang ups,

our mistakes,

our decisions…

We both realized were not perfect…

Things we would be ashamed to admit, poured out so easily because we both saw in each other that we don’t have to put up a facade of accomplishments,

That it’s okay to be not okay,

That it’s okay to have made stupid mistakes we all regret.

That it’s okay to be YOURSELF.

Flawed and imperfect.

That people can accept you for who you are and not what you think you should be.

We both discovered that instead of being negative after all the bad things that life has thrown our way, we are still here fighting to live each day…

Finding our own reason to fight;

To struggle…

And in the process,

Finding our own strengths…

Hoping…

Believing…

Becoming better as we age…

Filling in the moments with

Experiences that enrich us…

Making us stronger individuals…

Realizing our own weaknesses makes us want to get stronger…
And overcoming the challenges we face…

Time sped by and before we know it, the rain stopped…

The sky became clear…

The heavens opened up to give us a majestic view of the moon as it passes the closest it has ever come to earth…

We came to see the view but in His own way He made us see ourselves first; that we may finally enjoy His beautiful creations with a light heart.

We came to discover its beauty and came out discovering more about ourselves…

I guess that’s what travelling is all about…

Seeing new places makes you appreciate its beauty…

Meeting new people makes you step out of your comfort zone and if you’re lucky you’ll get to make new friends…

And if you have time to reflect and share yourself with, you’ll end up discovering yourself in the process…

So next time you take a trip, make it about the people you traveled with and not the view alone. Do something new and adventurous.

Ms. Taciturn
I am decisively indecisive. A paradox. A woman.
