Sound of Silence

Sound of Silence

Stillness is my sound
touching all those around.

Worry is my pitch
tugging hearts like a hitch.

Dread is my timbre
coloring life with its genre.

Fear is my intensity
amplifying reaction’s propensity.

Catastrophe is my duration
disseminating destruction.

Confusion is my interval
factoring mistakes’ integral.

Choices are my dynamics
waltzing horrors and comics.

Time is my crescendo
translating my lines’ innuendo.

Reflection is my decrescendo
revisiting things you can’t undo.

Clarity is my octave
writing your decisions on a stave.

Circumstance is my accent
spelling your rise or descent.

Abeyance is my ambiance
bidding your conscience
to contemplate my sound- silence.

Author’s Notes:

By contrasting elements of sound to those of silence and mixing them with the cognitive and emotional processes of decision making in symbolism, the piece Sound of Silence came to life. Silence is very loud depending on the circumstances and decisions that unravel during and after silence. Silence in short, reveals what was unsaid and of course sifts those who deserve to stay from those who don’t in our lives.
