Buds

Buds is a poem written by Ms. Maryam H. Viqar and shared with The Ugly Writers with the theme Recovery for the month of March.

Buds

Will rain ever be rain without the whiff of petrichor
Will spring ever be spring if I can’t smell blooms anymore
My food does taste all bland like the vitamin pills I take
I notice all the colours and check if the food is fake
Warm days seem tiring and lonely the nights have turned too rough
With throat so parched it aches and oh that occasional cough
Low grade fever is a threshold that you don’t want to cross
With days that pass, every hug that you miss seems a great loss
Like a prisoner in chains, or a culprit behind bars
No nights go by without looking at the sky full of stars
In a world of cinnamon cupcakes, plump oranges, lime
A quaint burst breaks the spell, I breathe for the very first time
I smell blooms, rain, food, wet grass, with my eyes closed I can see
All that I have loved since childhood, now makes more sense to me

A seeker, dreamer, scribbler, reader, writing poetry as musings of a restless mind....and yes 'the sight of the stars makes me dream' too....
