Beginning with “M”

Beginning with “M” is a poem written and shared by Maryam H. Viqar and shared with The Ugly Writers for the month of June.

Beginning with “M”

Let’s talk about Moon and Memories
And Muchness,
Mystery and maturity
And also Madness

Let’s smile
at what will happen tomorrow
Even though
all the world’s sorrow
Comes alive in our hearts
Forget it and think ridiculously

of
The trial of stolen tarts*
Or try and dance the quadrille*
For a start
Or better make-up stories
Of tree holes and treacle wells
And kings and queens,
Hatters and dragons who dwell
In a land most strange.

For the impossibilities
Have faded in yesterdays
Be grateful that memories
cannot work
Two ways*
Yesterdays and weeks after our todays

let one word have
as many meanings as we would like
And be not
The same person you were a while ago
For who knows how long the whiles are…*

But sigh!
It so happens
That you and I
Under a bright blue sky
bask deep
In the present Muchness
By a tea table where Time went mad
And refused to unfreeze…
Down down down*.

* loaded with fond references, “Alice In Wonderland”, a book that always inspires.

A seeker, dreamer, scribbler, reader, writing poetry as musings of a restless mind....and yes 'the sight of the stars makes me dream' too....
