My Breakup Story
Among many different things I have tried in my life, there is only one that I could call the hardest. It is breaking up with my first girlfriend. What made it so difficult was that it was about hurting another person’s feelings, but I realized it too late.
When we are young we start learning many new things about the world around us, about life, and, most importantly, about ourselves. We do not know much about a thing until we try it. That is very natural, just like love. First love is the purest and true love. But it can be deceitful because it is still the first time we are experiencing it, so we can not say much about it. That is why it is very easy to make wrong decisions in our first relationships.
I thought my first girlfriend was the best girl I could ever have been with, but it was at the beginning of our relationship. With time I started seeing things I had not seen before. That started to annoy me. Finally, after six months of being together, with her being happy and my being confused, I decided to break up with my “greatest love.” I knew then that it was not going to be easy, but I knew I had to do it. When I finally told her I wanted to break up with her, I experienced the most unpleasant feeling in my life. I hurt another person. I failed. I knew that I was not going to be the same again. I learned a lot that night.
We learn many things in our lives, but in my opinion, the lessons about other people are the most important ones. I learned that I have to be more careful because it is very easy to hurt other people. They have feelings too and love is not a game to play. I also learned that I need to know the person first and then make any conclusions and expectations. Unfortunately, this lesson cost me a great friend, my first girlfriend.
